Footprints

When someone says footprint anyone’s automatic response would be to think of a print made on the ground from someone’s foot. Wherever or whenever someone walks a “footprint” is made. We do not always think about this because in most places our footprints are not visual. The only real places we see footprints is if the bottom of a persons foot is wet and it leaves a mark on the side walk or if someone were to walk on clay, sand or mud. When we see these footprints they are never the same. The print is either small or larger, wide or long, has wrinkles or is printed from the bottom of a different shoe. Not one person on this earth has the same footprint or leaves the same mark. With that we do not normally think of what footprint we are leaving on this earth, or in other words our “mark”. Everyone wants to leave this earth feeling as if they left something behind that others would either cherish or teach them something they will never forget. As far as my footprints go on this earth I would like to be remember as someone who was kind, trustworthy, a friend to all. But what I never thought of was my footprint on this earth globally. Do I take care of the ecosystem; watch what I eat and where I get it? After taking the quiz I found out that I would use up 5.8 earths in order to stay alive. That I would need 25.6 global acres and that the highest level on my pie chart was my shelter. After thinking about it I realized that I take new technology and the ways mans created to my advantage. I’m not a tree hugger and do not seem to really focus on anything going on around me that concerns the ecosystem. Before taking this quiz I did see it coming that my scores would be around what they were, but never took the time till now to think of what I could do to make it better. I decided to go with buying more products that use less packaging or that are made out of 100%post-consumer recycled content material, and to use energy from renewable services. This really is not something that challenging to work on and can do the planet a lot of good. Why do I need to get products from all around and that are worse for me, when I could buy more organic food that is better for me and better for the environment. By doing this I think I can lower my amount of earths and feel better about helping our planet.

  1. We are sort of doing the same. I’m trying to use less energy and you are using energy from renewable services.

  2. People really don't think about what kind of mark their footprints leave :( I was surprised about my scores too.
